Women in Research Network - #WIRN
This network is aimed at all colleagues and postgraduate students interested in and willing to help address the imbalance in numbers between female and male academics in the STEMM fields, especially at senior level.
These meetings include a talk by a guest speaker who is a successful researcher and also a champion of women in STEMM, who will discuss their own career challenges, as well as the wider gender equality issues. These talks will be followed by a discussion session covering a number of issues that affect all (such as moving around for jobs, fellowship applications, ...).

Meetings run about every second month over lunch for ca. 2h with an invited speaker and a round table discussion in the Senate Room of the University.

A training session in "Successful Networking
"Networking is an uncomfortable process for many of us, particularly if we associated it with the cynical manipulation of others to our own ends. Yet when we listen to the stories of successful people, a common theme is the access to opportunities from others (or “luck” as it’s often described). This session will look at the role that our networks can and should play in our career success and help you to get more from your network without selling your soul."

WiRN reaches across the colleges of Medical Veterinary and Life Sciences and Science and Engineering and is funded by the Chancellors Fund of the University of Glasgow along with contributions from all Schools and Institutes in the two colleges.
